Awasa Agricultural Research Center  [top]

Objective: To generate, develop and adapt agricultural technologies, build up research capacity and popularize agricultural research results.

Current activities: One of the programs they are working is found to be Pineapple fruit. The crop is already taken as farmers’ cash crop and the research centre is working trials on the production and quality of pine apple at different sites around Awassa. They have established linkages with Jima research centre and collected planting material and already the program is through since last year and pineapple fruit is under harvest.

Awada Aposto Research Site, Awassa Research centre  [top]

Current activities: The research site is working on pineapple size and quality improvement under rain fed condition. The trail objective is to know the impact of artificial fertilizer on size and quality of smooth keyene pineapple variety. The plant material source is from Tepi and linked with Jima research centre that has experienced on pineapple for decades. The plantation is fourteen months old and in a very nice condition. There is also another pineapple trial plot with organic fertilizer.
